  • Yellow and white taxis are available all over city to take you anywhere. You can also download Ola app from here and Uber app from here for pick-up-from-your-location and hassle free journey. Prepaid Taxi counters are available at major railway stations and airport.
  • Private buses and govt. buses run by WBTC ply throughout the city. You can download the PATHADISHA app from here or CHALO app from here for live bus location tracking, you can give your existing location and select your destination, it’ll show the available routes. You can also book your tickets even before boarding the bus for some selective routes through these apps. Night Service is run by WBTC on selective city routes mostly from Howrah Railway Station. You can get the schedule here and timings from PATHADISHA app.
  • The Kolkata Metro runs from Noapara in north to Garia in south and passes through or from near most of the tourist attractions in Kolkata. You can avail a tourist smart card to avoid congestion to buy tickets every single time in the counters. The rates are Rs. 250 for one day and Rs. 550 for three days with a refundable security deposit of Rs. 60.
  • Local suburban trains serve the city as well along with suburban areas with Howrah and Sealdah as main terminals. The Circular Railway from Dum Dum Jn. to Majherhat passes through the Hoogly river bank and passes from under Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Bridge and is quiet scenic. Princep Ghat and Millenium Park are easily accessible from this train route. You can get down at BBD Bag station to avail ferry service to cross over Hoogly River to reach Howrah station.
  • The ferry service between Kolkata and Howrah district is run by WBTC and private corporations. Some important routes includes Howrah Station to Fairlie Ghat(BBD Bag), Chadpal(Babughat), Ahiritola, Bagbazar, Armenian Ghat, Dakshineshwar to Belur Math, etc.
  • The city has the only tram network still running in the country. Once upon a time it used to have dedicated path through the middle of the roads serving as divider to the road and used to be a major public transportation for commuters. However, in the past few years, the network has been broken down intensively citing metro projects, traffic jams, etc. with future plans of the govt. to shut down the system fully. So, grab a ride in the British era trams before the service gets suspended forever.
  • You can also bicycle across the Newtown township to commute short distances. . Just download Zoomcar app from here, go to PEDL, register yourself, on your location, pick your bicycle from your nearest station and unlock it with the QR code. There are dedicated bicycling lanes in some streets in Newtown though not properly utilized.
